GigaPOP definition - telecom
The point at which a carrier establishes a physical presence in a geographic area with a switch, router, or other device offering access to a fiber optic transmission system (FOTS) supporting bandwidth in the Gbps range. See also bandwidth, carrier, FOTS, Gbps, POP, router, and switch.
