fragment-free switch
fragment-free switch definition - telecom
A type of LAN matrix switch that quickly stores the first 64 octets of the frame before it reads the address and quickly flows it through the switching matrix, bit by bit. As most errors occur at the beginning of a frame, this approach eliminates the possibility that runt frames, i.e., truncated frames, will be transmitted. See also cut-through switch, LAN, LAN switch, matrix switch, and switch.
