  1. The rate of flow of something such as energy, particles, or fluid volumes across or through a surface. Radiant flux is the time rate of energy flow of radiant energy as measures in watts or joules per second. Luminous flux is radiant flux evaluated with respect to its luminous (brightness) efficiency. See also joule, luminance, and watt.
  2. The strength of an energy field acting on a specific area.
