EB

EB definition - telecom
A quintillion (10 18 ) bytes. An EB is actually 1,152,921,504,606,846,976 bytes (1,024 6 , or 2 60 ) bytes, as the measurement of internal computer memory is based on a base 2, or binary, number system. The term EB comes from the fact that 1,152,921,504,606,846,976 is nominally, or approximately, 1,000,000,000,000,000,000. In reality, an exabyte is rarely mentioned and never encountered. To put an EB in perspective, some sources suggest that the total volume of information generated annually, worldwide, is in the range of 2 EB, and that the total of all words ever spoken by human beings is in the range of 5 EB.
