DTE definition - telecom
- Equipment comprising a keyboard, a video adapter, and a monitor. A data terminal is a dumb terminal, i.e., it does no independent processing, but relies on the computational resources of a computer to which it is connected over a dedicated circuit or through a network.A data terminal essentially is an input/output (I/O) device. See also terminal and terminal emulation.
- Referring to the subset of customer premises equipment (CPE) used in computer data, rather than voice, applications. DTE generally applies to data hubs, multiplexers, routers, switches, and terminals. See also CPE.
