distributed amplification definition - telecom
A type of amplification that is spread over an entire link or portion of a link, rather than occurring in a single, discrete location. Raman amplification is a distributed approach, generally occurring over the entire length of an optical fiber link. See also discrete amplification and Raman amplifier.
