DAC definition - telecom
  1. Dual-Attached Concentrator. A concentrator or LAN switch attached to both rings of a FiberDistributed Data Interface (FDDI) LAN. See also concentrator, FDDI, and LAN.
  2. Digital-to-Analog Converter. A device in the form of a chipset that receives digital signals and changes them into analog format. In a typical voice application, for example, an ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) receives analog signals, measures the input at a regular sampling interval (or on command), and reports a digital output of the results. At the receiving end of the connection, a DAC reverses the process. For a full explanation of the process, see ADC. See also analog, digital, and signal.
