collocation definition - telecom
  1. A physical arrangement in which things are placed close together.
  2. In telecommunications, referring to the placement of the equipment of a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) or Internet service provider (ISP) in the incumbent LEC's (ILEC's) central office (CO). A collocation arrangement generally requires that the ILEC provide a separately area, such as a cage, for the CLEC or ISP to secure its termination equipment, switches, routers, and other equipment. See also CLEC, CO, ILEC, and ISP.
