A block line coding technique in which 8 data octets comprising 64 data bits is encoded into a block of 66 signaling bits prior to transmission. The data are scrambled in a self-synchronous scrambler function that is intended to even the distribution of 1s and 0s and thereby both achieve DC balance on the line and prevent intersymbol interference.
