noun
- a device for submarines, consisting of air intake and exhaust tubes: it permits submergence for long periods
- a breathing tube extending above the surface of the water, used in swimming just below the surface
- a hydraulic crane with a bucketlike aerial platform, mounted on a truck for firefighting, etc.
Etymology: Ger schnorchel, inlet, breathing tube, lit., snort, akin to schnarchen, to snore, akin to snore
intransitive verb snorkeled -·keled, snorkeling -·kel·ing
to move or swim underwater using a snorkel
