Sadomasochism is defined as a sexual enjoyment of both sadism (a desire to give pain) and masochism (a desire to receive pain).

When a couple is in a relationship where the man enjoys whipping the woman and the woman enjoys being whipped and both derive sexual pleasure from these activities, this is an example of sadomasochism.
