The
simultaneous rush by many depositors to reclaim their deposits. Runs on a bank
occur when investors are afraid that the bank is insolvent and that their funds
will be lost. This occurred during the Great Depression. Fortunately, in the
United States, runs on a bank are rare phenomena. Also called bank run.
