Roncesvalles

(rŏnˈsə-vălzˌ, rônˌthĕs-välˈyĕs)

A mountain pass, 1,057.7 m (3,468 ft) high, through the western Pyrenees in northern Spain. It is the traditional site of the death of the hero Roland during the defeat of Charlemagne's army by the Saracens (778).
