roll forward Finance Definition
To move from one option position into another one that has a later expiration date. If the new option position has a higher strike price, it is called a roll up and forward. Similarly, a lower strike price is a roll down and forward. Roll forwards occur because the option is going to expire and the trader wants to retain the position.
