noun
preferred provider
organization (PPO) Finance Definition
A network of doctors and health care providers who agree to offer discounted care
to the members of an employer- or union-sponsored health insurance plan. The
medical professionals receive a significant number of clients, which makes
offering the discount worthwhile. Employees can see doctors and other
professionals outside of the network, but they have to pay a higher percentage
of the cost than if they stay with an in-network doctor.
