the large landmass that nearly extended from pole to pole on one side of the earth during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras: it eventually split, forming Laurasia and Gondwana
Etymology: coined (1912) by A. L. Wegener (1880-1930), Ger geologist: < Gr pan, all + gē, the earth
