- any of various round or oblong fruits that grow on different varieties of a trailing vine (Cucumis melo) of the gourd family, including cantaloupes and honeydew melons
- any of these plants, esp. a variety (Cucumis melo var. reticulatus) having fruit with a musky odor, ribbed netlike skin, and greenish to reddish orange, sweet, juicy flesh
