medium-term notes (MTN) Finance Definition
Notes that are sold continuously, often weekly, that have all the features of corporate bonds. (A typical bond offering is made only every three to four years.) The maturities of medium-term notes range from 9 months up to 30 years, although 30 years isn’t a common issuance. Companies that sell MTNs are the highest-quality companies.
