Wernicke's syndrome
noun A disease of the nervous system caused by a deficiency of thiamine and characterized by abnormal eye movements, a loss of muscle coordination, tremors, and confusion; it is almost always followed by amnesia and is most often seen in chronic alcoholics. Also called Wernicke's encephalopathy.
