noun The superior part of the vestibulocochlear nerve peripheral to the vestibulocochlear nerve root, composed of nerve processes that have their terminals on hair cells of the ampullae of the semicircular ducts and the maculas of the saccule and utricle and the bipolar neurons of the vestibular ganglion.
