noun A muscle with origin from the anterior superior spine and the adjacent lateral surface of the ilium, with insertion into the iliotibial band of the broad fascia, with nerve supply from the superior gluteal nerve, and whose action tenses the broad fascia and flexes, abducts, and medially rotates the thigh.
