The degeneration of the posterior and lateral columns of the spinal cord caused by a deficiency of vitamin B12 and usually associated with pernicious anemia, resulting in a prickling or burning sensation of the skin and a loss of coordination. Also called Putnam-Dana syndrome, vitamin B12 neuropathy.
