sal·pin·go·pha·ryn·geal muscle (săl-pĭngˌgō-fə-rĭnˈjəl, -fărˌĭn-jēˈəl)
noun A muscle with origin from the medial lamina of the cartilaginous part of the eustachian tube, with insertion into the muscular layer of the pharynx, with nerve supply from the pharyngeal plexus, and whose action assists in elevating the pharynx and in opening the eustachian tube during swallowing.
