phos·pho·trans·fer·ase (fŏsˌfō-trănsˈfə-rāsˌ, -rāzˌ)
noun Any of a class of enzymes, including the kinases, that catalyze the transfer of phosphorus-containing groups from one compound to another. Also called transphosphatase.
