per·i·stal·sis (pĕrˌĭ-stôlˈsĭs, -stălˈ-)
noun pl. per·i·stal·ses (-sēz) The wavelike muscular contractions of the intestine or other tubular structure that propel the contents onward by alternate contraction and relaxation. Also called vermicular movement.
