pep·ti·do·gly·can (pĕpˌtĭ-dō-glīˈkən, -kănˌ)
noun A polymer found in the cell walls of prokaryotes that consists of polysaccharide and peptide chains in a strong molecular network. Also called mucopeptide, murein.
