ox·y·to·cin (ŏkˌsĭ-tōˈsĭn)
noun A short polypeptide hormone that is released from the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland, stimulates the contraction of smooth muscle of the uterus during labor, and facilitates release of milk from the breast during nursing.
