NMDA receptor (ĕnˌĕmˌdēˌāˈ)

noun
A brain receptor activated by the amino acid glutamate, which when excessively stimulated may cause cognitive defects in Alzheimer's disease. Also called N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor.
