mon·o·ox·y·gen·ase (mŏnˌō-ŏkˈsĭ-jə-nāsˌ, -nāzˌ)
noun Any of a group of enzymes that catalyze both the addition of a single oxygen atom from molecular oxygen into a substrate and the reduction of a second oxygen atom in the substrate to water.
