noun A disease occurring sporadically in the Mediterranean littoral marked by severe chills with abrupt rise of temperature, pains in the joints, tonsillitis, diarrhea, vomiting, and a rash of elevated nonconfluent macules beginning on the thighs and spreading to the entire body.
