jaundice of newborn
noun- A mild temporary jaundice in newborn infants caused mainly by functional immaturity of the liver.
- A severe, sometimes fatal form of jaundice in newborn infants caused by pathological conditions such as congenital blockage of the common bile duct, erythroblastosis fetalis, and septic pylephlebitis. Also called icterus neonatorum, Ritter's disease.
