noun An autonomic plexus that surrounds the internal carotid artery in the carotid canal and in the cavernous sinus and sends branches to the tympanic plexus, sphenopalatine ganglion, abducens and oculomotor nerves, the cerebral vessels, and the ciliary ganglion.
