hex·o·ki·nase (hĕkˌsə-kīˈnāsˌ, -nāzˌ, -kĭnˈāsˌ, -āzˌ)
noun A transferase enzyme present in yeast, muscle, and other tissues, that acts during carbohydrate metabolism to catalyze the transfer of phosphate from ATP to glucose and other hexoses.
