noun pl. de·lir·i·ums or de·lir·i·a (-ē-ə) A temporary state of mental confusion resulting from high fever, intoxication, shock, or other causes, and characterized by anxiety, disorientation, memory impairment, hallucinations, trembling, and incoherent speech.
