co·lis·tin (kə-lĭsˈtĭn, kō-)
noun An antibiotic produced by the bacterium Bacillus polymyxa or B. colistinus that is effective against a range of gram-negative bacteria and is used especially in the treatment of infections of the gastrointestinal tract.
