as·ter·ix·is (ăsˌtə-rĭkˈsĭs)
noun An abnormal tremor consisting of involuntary jerking movements, especially in the hands, frequently occurring with impending hepatic coma and other forms of metabolic encephalopathy. Also called flapping tremor.
