ac·et·al·de·hyde (ăsˌĭ-tălˈdə-hīdˌ)

noun
A colorless, flammable liquid formed during ethanol metabolism and yeast fermentation of organic compounds and used to manufacture acetic acid and drugs. Also called aldehyde, ethaldehyde.
