macrobend - Computer Definition
A relatively large bend in an optical waveguide, such as a fiber optic cable.A technician may need to bend a cable around a corner, for example, or may need to coil some cable in a span to provide necessary slack in the event that the cable must be spliced in the future, perhaps to repair a break. A technician placing a macrobend in a cable must consider the minimum allowable bend diameter in order to prevent either damage to the cable or bending loss, i.e., loss of signal strength resulting from an excessive bend. See also bend diameter, bending loss, and microbend.
