First Earl ofTitle of Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton. 1831-1891
British politician and poet (under the pen name Owen Meredith) who served as viceroy of India (1876-1880) and ambassador to Paris (1887-1891). His daughter Lady Constance Lytton (1869-1923) was a militant suffragist who also worked for prison reform.
Rienzi's life and fate have formed the subject of a famous novel by Bulwer Lytton, of an opera by Wagner and of a tragedy by Julius Mosen.
