(lo͞o-hänskˈ) or Lu·gansk (lo͞o-gänskˈ) Formerly Vo·ro·shi·lov·grad (vôrˌə-shēˈləf-grădˌ, və-rə-shē-ləf-grätˈ)
A city of eastern Ukraine in the Donets Basin southeast of Kharkiv. A coal-mining center, it was founded c. 1795. Population: 453,000.
