Lewis, John L. Finance Definition
A
labor union leader who was the president of the United Mine Workers in the
mid-1930s. He set up the rival Congress of Industrial Organizations when the
American Federation of Labor ignored his attempt to organize unskilled workers.
He obtained a landmark wage and benefit package for United Mine WorkersÂ’
members when workers went on strike in the 1940s.
