  1. The act of presenting something, such as a bargain, with the understanding that should the other party agree, that bargain will be complete.
  2. A promise by one party to do something in exchange for something else being done by the second party.
  3. An act demonstrating a willingness to enter into a contract in such a way that a reasonable person would recognize that acceptance of the terms will conclude in a binding agreement. See also acceptance.
