Origin of Larimar

  • Combination of Larissa and Spanish mar (“sea”). Coined by Miguel Méndez after his 1974 rediscovery of the stone in the Dominican Republic. Named for his daughter Larissa and the Carribean sea which has a similar color of the stone.
