James Bay definition by American Heritage Dictionary
The southern arm of Hudson Bay, in east-central Canada between northeast Ontario and western Quebec. It was sighted by Henry Hudson in 1610 but named for the English captain Thomas James (1593?-1635?), who explored much of the bay in 1631.
