Ruler of Judea and tetrarch in Galilee (4 B.C.-A.D. 40). His marriage to his niece Herodias was denounced by John the Baptist, who was beheaded at the urging of Salome, the daughter of Herodias. It was to Herod Antipas that Pontius Pilate sent Jesus for judgment.
