Includes technical manuals distinguished by cover color and related to computer security. The first Rainbow series was derived by the National Computer Security Center. These security manuals dealt with evaluating trusted computer systems and appeared between 1988 and 1995. The most prominent one was the Orange Book, upon which most of the other titles in the series expanded. Portions of the series were superseded by the Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
