Ashcroft, John David definition - hacker
Attorney General of the United States from January 20, 2001, to February 3, 2005. In this role, Ashcroft represented the United States in legal matters, advising the U.S. President and executive department heads. In July 2001, he established the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property units in the Department of Justice to take an active role in the fight against cracking and cybercrime.

On November 10, 2004, the White House announced that John Ashcroft would resign his post as soon as a suitable replacement could be named. He was succeeded by Alberto Gonzales.
