Woolworth, F.W. definition - finance
The
original retail discounter, F.W. Woolworth started five- and ten-cent stores
bearing his name. He introduced fixed-price merchandise, which ushered out the
era of customers haggling over prices with the store clerks. He opened up
identical stores around the country, which created chain-store retailing.
