Toronto Stock Exchange
Toronto Stock Exchange definition - finance
CanadaÂ’s largest stock exchange, where more than 1,300
senior equities are traded. In 2001, the Toronto Stock Exchange acquired the
Canadian Venture Exchange Inc. (CDNX), which lists emerging companies. In April
2002, the TSX brand was launched. TSX includes the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX
Venture Group (formerly CDNX), TSX Markets, and TSX Datalinx. The benchmark
index is the S&P/TSE Composite Index, which replaced the TSE 300. Companies
included in it are reviewed on a quarterly basis instead of an annual basis. It
celebrated its 150-year anniversary in 2002. TSX is the third most active stock
exchange in North America after the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ
Stock Market, and ranks seventh in the world for domestic market
capitalization.
