short-term gain

short-term gain definition - finance
A gain on an investment or on the purchase of an asset that occurs within one year from the investment date. Short-term gains are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, making this type of gain less lucrative than gains on investments held for over one year, which are taxed at the lower, capital gains tax rate.
